Cative Sounds of Dissension part 2

January 25th, 2012 by Holly

This past Monday night I met a friend down at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center on Essex St and caught a couple sets of pretty good music (jazz). I had to leave before the third one because my poor pup hadn’t been walked since probably noon but here are some pics.

The songs Cooper-Moore and his group played weren’t as “progressive” as I’ve come to expect from him but I liked that for a change of pace.

This set with Rob Brown and Steve Swell was really solid.

New Sites Launched – Muzocalo.com, gatherandsort.com

January 25th, 2012 by Holly

Well, I’ve been wanting to put together a blog relating to my music collection and the great music shows that I’ve caught over the years… I call it muzocalo… Haven’t had a lot of time to work on it yet, but hopefully soon… I’ve barely had any time to do any design or customization for it, so it doesn’t really look so hot but I want it to be about the content (jazz).

My lovey wife started a blog, too – Gather and Sort. It looks great and I love the couple of posts that she’s had time to put up.

Check ‘em out and let me know what you think of them.

Various Visionfest drawings

Here are some drawings I’ve done at various NY Vision Festivals over the past couple of years.

I can’t remember who this guitarist was. guitarist - can't find his name

Here’s one of Cooper-Moore. This concert was the first time I had seen him and he’s now a real favorite.Cooper-Moore

I’ve always liked my albums that Bob Stewart. It was a great treat to catch him live last year!

Craig Taborn – Live at Sunset-Sunrise – Mai 29 2011, Paris

January 15th, 2012 by Holly

I saw a really good show last spring. It was just a little bit of luck that I saw it. My wife and I were in Paris and, as I don’t know the city, before we left I searched online for live jazz. I found this Craig Taborn solo concert at Sunrise-Sunet. It wasn’t easy to get a sense of what kind of jazz Taborn specialized in just from a web search but he had played with good people so I decided to try it. I’m really glad I did, too… He really is an incredible musician… taborn_drawing

Incidentally, at the set break, I met another Brooklynite who actually lived in my neighborhood. He was a musician who was touring Europe with his band, Pitom. I haven’t run into him since I’ve been back or gotten a chance to hear his band but he was a nice guy and it was funny running into a neighbor halfway across the globe….

I put down hooky kid a few months ago… It’s just about done. I may go back into it sometime but for now, I’m thinking 3.5 years is long enough

Here’re a couple pictures of some of the eggs Amy and I did this spring – materials: paas coloring, food coloring, tape, rubber cement, decoupage (mod podge, tissue and origami paper), etc

We just finished the first phase of this site – usmagazine.com. most of the design and development was performed by funnygarbage, where we, at wenner, provided direction and support.

It is very cool, though. First site I’ve built with symfony. It is too early, really to make any snap judgements on the framework, though. We have another couple of months, at least before users get used to it and traffic resumes to a pre-redesign level – at least that is how it went for the last redesign, which wasn’t half as drastic.

What I am looking forward to most, though, is bringing more social features into the site – ratings, click streams, recommendations, whatever.
