September 24th, 2007 by Holly

If you have not heard the Mystic Moods Orchestra’s album, One Rainy Night…  I am so sorry…  I will pray for you…
I don’t have any more of their albums, but if you have a recommendation, please send it along…

The Longines Symphonette Society – Love it or Leave it

September 24th, 2007 by Holly

And how could anyone leave it?  The Longines Symponette Society is one of the phattest groups around.  Sure, they have their unmemorable albums (the campfire songs one could be like that, I can’t remember (if that tells you anything)) but when you get one of their super 10 album collections (i.e.: 20 star guitar, The [...]

Fred Anderson & Hamid Drake – From the River to the Ocean

September 18th, 2007 by Holly

I found another Great Album at e-music… this one by two true jazz powerhouses – Fred Anderson and Hamid Drake – From the River to the Ocean.
One of the things I like best about it is that all the tracks really bridge the gap between progressive and straight ahead seamlessly so that the music [...]

Vidbb (back to) work log…

September 11th, 2007 by Holly

Last weekend I finally got inspired to sit down at vidbb’s code. (for some reason, I miss being involved with the non-profit world)
Anyway, for the first time in over 8 months I took a look at vidbb’s guts… It took me a little while to figure out why I had done some of it [...]

mus.so.des database redesign

August 12th, 2007 by Holly

I’ve been thinking a lot about redoing my music site, mus.so.des, again.  Right now, the only thing it’s good for is searching my music collection but I would really love to make it more community driven/music-head friendly.  This being the case, I’m retooling the database a little.
When I first started keeping track of my music [...]

Latest fibers work…

August 12th, 2007 by Holly

I started another embroidery a couple of months ago – I just decided to scan it and add it to my image gallery. I really haven’t had any time to work on it for a long time but am hoping to get back to work on it soon.
update: 9-5 – haven’t been working on this [...]

Winsor McCay’s Little Nemo in Slumberland vol. 1

August 4th, 2007 by Holly

Last night I ran into a cool store on my way back to the subway (I had tried to go to Academy Records on 10th St but, alas, it was closed) – Forbidden Planet. Pretty cool in it’s own sweltering, non-ac endowed way. Had it not been so hot, I probably would [...]

This week at e-music… La Cave Saravah by Various Artists

July 30th, 2007 by Holly

La Cave Saravah – Most of the tracks on this compilation are pretty good but what really makes this album is, “For All We Know,” by Marva Broom and the Art Ensemble of Chicago (oh, how I wish there was an entire album from this pairing)… I can’t say enough about this [...]

Hamid Drake, Albert Berger, William Parker

July 24th, 2007 by Holly

got these two excellent albums on e music
Evolving Silence vol.1
Evolving Silence vol.2
Two albums of fantastic progressive jazz from three of today’s best. Some songs are more contemplative and earthy. Then others are definitely more urban and “raw”. Great stuff…
Found these two at e-music…

freeform front

wfmu – I love this station
xhug – webcast from the University of Guadalajara. talk and music.
music.ahsodes.com- this site, currently, is basically a front end shell for my music database. In the future, when I have added more functionality to it, I would like for it to become a sort of [...]
